Abstract

ABSTRACT
Migraine is one of the commonest causes of headache which involves recurrent attacks of moderate to severe pain and often strikes one side of the head. A number of intrinsic or extrinsic factors can trigger migraine attack like stress, weather changes, fatigue, food and beverages, sleeplessness, hunger, and menstruation. The knowledge about migraine and its triggers is important for proper management of the patients. The objectives of the study were to assess the knowledge regarding migraine among patients, and to determine the association between knowledge and selected baseline variables. Descriptive design was selected for this study. A sample of 200 patients with migraine attending the Neurology outpatient department of St. Johns medical college Bangalore was taken using purposive sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of patients regarding migraine. The result shows that only 1.5% of the patients had adequate knowledge about migraine. The findings also denoted a significant association between knowledge with selected baseline variables like gender, occupation, education and monthly income at p<0.05 level.
