Effect of Psychosocial Status on Recovery and Rehabilitation among Joint Replacement Patient Admitted in Selected Hospital

Abstract


Introduction: Joint replacement is one of the most successful modern surgery interventions in
orthopedics and traumatology and conducting proper and timely rehabilitation plays an important
role for a more complete recovery and for prevention from complications. The period of home
rehabilitation has a significant impact on the speed and degree of functional recovery for patients
with joint replacement. Home environment positively effects on psychosocial status of patients and
stimulates their active involvement in the recovery process. Material and method: a descriptive study
design was used to assess the psychosocial status, recovery, and rehabilitation among the joint
replacement patients. The data was collected from 40 patients selected by simple randomized
sampling technique, by using of structured questionnaire. Result: The psychosocial status result
shows the middle level of psychosocial status distributed as frequency 39 and 97.5%; and the
recovery status shows the high level of recovery status distributed as frequency 24 and 60%. The
rehabilitation shows the middle level of rehabilitation status distributed as frequency 38 and 95%.
Conclusion: A patient with joint replacement has great negative consequences on the parents and the
family. This study aimed at effectiveness of psychosocial status on recovery and rehabilitation among
joint replacement patient admitted in selected hospital.
