Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Relationship Management Skills Among Students of Single and Co-educational Institutes

Abstract


High emotional regulation contributes to cordial interpersonal relationship and interaction. Type of institutes plays important role in the enhancement of the emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship management skills. Objective: To ascertain the impact of nature of the institutes on the emotional and social skills of the students. Material and Method: Specifically a comparative research design was adopted to compare the emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship management skills among students studying in single and co-educational institutes of Punjab. Total 236 students were selected using stratified random sampling technique of which 118 from Single and 118 from co-educational Institutes. Self-report difficulty in emotional regulation scale (DERS) and interaction pattern scale were used to collect data and analyzed by using SPSS 26. Result: The mean±SD score of emotional regulation among students of single and co-educational institutes were 114.16±18.66 and 113.34±15.97 respectively which was non-significant (p≥0.05). The mean±SD score of interpersonal relationship management skills among students of single and co-educational institute were 82.90±12.86 and 80.12±14.98 respectively, which was found to be non-significant (p≥0.05). Conclusion: It was concluded that the type of institute is not affecting the emotional regulation and interpersonal relationship management skills of students.
