Abstract

The study aimed to evaluate the awareness of suicide prevention among caregivers of mentally ill patients in a specific hospital located in Kottayam. The study had two main objectives: first, to gauge the level of knowledge among caregivers regarding suicide prevention for mentally ill patients, and second, to examine the relationship between this knowledge and certain demographic factors. The research involved 30 caregivers of mentally ill patients who attended both the inpatient and outpatient departments of Caritas Hospital in Kottayam. The participants were chosen through random selection, and data collection involved the use of a structured questionnaire to gather demographic information, along with a structured knowledge questionnaire to assess the understanding of the selected individuals. The collected data was then analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The study revealed that 36.6% of samples have good knowledge, 50.1% have average knowledge and 13.3% have poor knowledge level. Furthermore, the study found that there is no noteworthy correlation between the caregivers' knowledge level and the chosen demographic factors.
