The study's objectives included assessing the students' screen time, evaluating their sleep quality, exploring potential links between screen time and sleep quality, and determining any correlations between the two factors among nursing students. Materials and methods: The research methodology employed in this study is descriptive in nature. A sample of 60 students from Dr. Moopen's Nursing College was chosen using a convenient sampling method. Study also adopted structured sleep quality assessment scale PSQI to assess the screen time and quality of sleep. Categorical variables' relationships were assessed through the utilization of a chi-square test. The relation between continuous variables were assessed using Karl Pearson correlation. The systematically collected data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics Result: Out of the 60 sample 1 had no sleep difficulty with the screen time of >2.51 hours of the total 60 subjects 44 had mild sleep difficulty of which 3(68%) had a screen time <30 mins, 20 (45.5%) had a screen time between 31 mins to 1.5 hours, 16 (36.4%) had a screen time of 1.51 to 2.5 hours and 5 (11.4%) had a screen time of >2.51 hours. Out of the 60 subjects 14 had moderate sleep difficulty of which 5 (35.5%) had a screen time <30 mins, 6 (42.9%) had a screen time between 31 mins to 1.5 hours and 3 (21.4%) had a screen time 1.51 hours to 2.5 hours. Out of 60 samples 1 had severe sleep difficulty with a screen time of 37 mins to 1.5 hoursThe analysis of association between PSQI score and screen time shows statistically significant association with p-value 0.024.Pearson’s co-relation revealed that total sleep time was associated with decreased sleep quality(R= 0.356, P<0.001).Discussion: The analysis of the relationship between the PSQI score and screen time reveals a statistically significant association, as indicated by a p-value of 0.024.On the analysis of association the present study concludes that, the majority of the students have mild sleep difficulty after their screen time during night.
2023-10-23T09:35:38+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 International Journal of Neurological Nursinghttps://nursing.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=IJNN&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=2350The Correlation Between Emotional Intelligence and Interpersonal Relationships Among Staff Nurses2023-12-21T07:33:54+00:00Jisha P. Mohammedjishanoushad2006@gmail.comA descriptive non-experimental study was conducted to evaluate the relationship between emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships among the staff nurses employed at a specific hospital. The objectives of the study were: (1) To assess the level of emotional intelligence among staff nurses, (2) To assess the level of interpersonal relationship among staff nurses, and (3) To assess the correlation between emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationship among staff nurses. Convenient sampling was used to select 60 staff nurses. Socio demographic data sheet, Modified Schutte self-report emotional intelligence test and Modified interpersonal communication inventory were used in this study. The data gathered underwent analysis utilizing both descriptive and inferential statistical methods. The result revealed that among 60 samples, 91.66% had good emotional intelligence and 8.33% had average level of emotional intelligence. Of the samples, 78.33% had good interpersonal relationship. This research demonstrated a slight positive correlation between emotional intelligence and interpersonal relationships among the staff nurses.2023-11-23T09:30:50+00:00Copyright (c) 2023 International Journal of Neurological Nursinghttps://nursing.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=IJNN&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=2368A Descriptive Study on the Level of Emotional Maturity and Stress Among Nursing Students in a Selected Nursing College at Kottayam2023-12-21T07:33:54+00:00Jessy Abrahamsrjessymariya@gmail.comA. Maria Theressrjessymariya@gmail.comThe purpose of the present study was to find out the level of emotional maturity in relation to the level of stress of first year BSc nursing students. The study was carried out in the Kottayam district's chosen nursing college. The subjects were first year BSc nursing students and the sample size was 53. The samples were selected through a simple random sampling technique. The tools used are a structured questionnaire to collect the baseline data and a standardized scale to assess the emotional maturity and stress among students. The findings of the study as are follows: among 53 subjects, 96.2% of them belong to the age group of 18–20 years. 90.5% of them were girls. 58.4% of them are from nuclear family and 62.2% belong to the family of two children. Regarding the level of emotional maturity, 81.1% of them belong to extremely unstable group. In terms of stress levels, the majority of them (75.4%) reported experiencing a high level of stress. When assessing correlation, it shows that a positive correlation exists between emotional maturity and stress. That means, higher the level of emotional instability, stress level also will be high.
