A study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Oral Health Among Students in a Selected Government Primary Schools of Tarn Taran, Punjab

Abstract


BACKGROUND: oral health is an integral component of general health. Oral health has also been found profoundly influence on quality of life. It is important to maintain the oral hygiene to prevent many problems like dental caries, coated tongue, bad odor, toothache, tooth decay and periodontal diseases etc. Dental caries and periodontal diseases are highly prevalent diseases in many populations. Parents as well as children totally unaware of these problems, therefore it is responsibility of parents to take care of their children. AIM: A study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on oral health among students in a selected government primary schools of Tarn Taran, Punjab. The main aim was to assess the impact of teaching on knowledge regarding oral hygiene. MATERIAL & METHODS: Convenient sampling technique was adopted to select 60 primary school children of having age 7-11 yrs and self structured interview knowledge questionnaire was used to collect data. RESULTS & CONCLUSION: it can be seen from result that the overall pretest mean knowledge score 10.33 with SD 3.36 as compared to overall post mean knowledge score 15.21 with SD 3.61. the data subjected for statistical paired t test showed a highly significant difference (p<0.39) existing between pre test and post test overall mean knowledge score (t= 12.76) and the educational status of the children had great impact on knowledge score i.e. found to be 0.027 levels. RECOMMENDATIONS: Comparative study can be undertaken on large scale for better generalization.
