A Descriptive Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Promotion of Mental Health Among Adolescents in Selected High School of Patiala Punjab

Abstract


The study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on promotion of mental health in selected high school, Patiala, with the objectives: to evaluate the knowledge of adolescents regarding promotion of mental health before and after administration of planned teaching programme and to identify the relationship of knowledge regarding promotion of mental health with selected variables. The descriptive research approach was adopted for the study. The independent variable in the study was planned teaching programme and dependent variables were knowledge of selected adolescents. The study was conducted in D.A.V. school, Patiala. Convenient sampling, a technique of non-probability sampling method, was used for data collection. The sample consists of 50 students of class 9 and 10 studying in D.A.V. Public School, Patiala. The tool developed and used for data collection was structured knowledge questionnaire. The questionnaire has two sections. Section 1 consisted of item seeking information on personal data. Section 2 comprised item selected to introduction, characteristics, causative factors, misconceptions, prevention and promotion. Every area had eight questions. The content validity of questionnaire and material of planned teaching programme were established by their experts from field of nursing and doctors. After pilot study, the tool was found reliable. The investigators visited the D.A.V. Public School and administered the questionnaire. They taught each student through planned teaching programme and collected the data from sample using paper-and-pencil method. Students gained knowledge after planned teaching programme irrespective of their class, gender, religion, area of belonging, type of family, monthly income of family and mass media exposure. The planned teaching programme is an effective method to impart knowledge and create awareness among people.
