Time Management Among Health Care Workers in Diwan
Abstract
Background: Time management is crucial for health care workers’ success in their working
environment worldwide. Quality health care services, as well as patients’ treatment outcomes, are
dependents upon providers’ effective time management capabilities. Methods: This study aimed to
assess the level of adherence to tips in time management and to assess the level and frequency of using
technology in time management among health care workers in the Diwan Health Complex, Oman. A
cross-sectional descriptive design was used, in which data were collected using three self-administered
questionnaires. Results: The total number of participants was 147. There were 86 females (59%). Sixty-
seven percent were Omanis. The mean for age was 36 years where 70% were less than 40 years of age.
The optimal adherence to applying well-known tips in time management is reported in 52% of
participants. In addition, 46% showed optimal adherence to applying technology in time management.
Conclusion: There is still a conflict between adhering to good time management tips and the use of
technology intended to improve time management. Further study is needed to ascertain why the
behavior of some health care workers contradicts some well-established time management tips. In-
service training on time management should be provided to healthcare personnel and effective time
management surveys should be periodically conducted.
