The Level of Sleep among Patients with Chemotherapy

Abstract


This is a descriptive study to assess the level of sleep among patients with chemotherapy in Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), Coimbatore. Chemotherapy is a type of treatment used for cancer that uses one or more drugs as a part of a standardized chemotherapy regimen. Sleep is as important as a meditation as it has improved quality of life among people with chemotherapy. Objectives: To assess the level of sleep among patients with chemotherapy in KMCH, Coimbatore; and to associate the level of sleep among patients with chemotherapy with their selected demographic and clinical variables in KMCH, Coimbatore. Hypotheses: There is a significant association between the level of sleep among patients with chemotherapy with their selected demographic and clinical variables in KMCH, Coimbatore. Setting of the study: The physical location and condition in which data collection took place is the setting of the study; the research setting in the study was patients with chemotherapy in KMCH, Coimbatore. Research approach: The research approach for the study is quantitative approach. Research design: The research design for the study is descriptive non-experimental design. Sample: The sample size of the study was 50, who are undergoing chemotherapy to fulfill the inclusion criteria. Data analysis and interpretation: Findings of the study: In the present study, nearly 50% had moderate sleep disturbances; hence there is a significant association between the levels of sleep with all the socio-clinical variables. Conclusion: This study was taken to assess the level of sleep among patients with chemotherapy in KMCH, Coimbatore. The result of the study shows that there were moderate sleep disturbances among patients with chemotherapy.
