Abstract

Lecture cum demonstration may be in the nature of properties of matter, explanation of structure or steps of a procedure. Lecture cum video is the method used most frequently in video teaching. Nursing students are expected to have an understanding of CPR and the ability to perform the basic skills. In this quasi-experimental research design, 60 students were selected using simple random sampling technique. 30 students were divided for each intervention. After conducting pretest with structured knowledge questionnaire regarding CPR, both interventions were administered in each group respectively. Posttest was done after 10 days using same structured knowledge questionnaire.

The mean posttest knowledge score in both groups were higher than pretest knowledge score, indicating the effectiveness of both interventions. The mean post test score (16.3) of lecture cum video was apparently higher than the post test score (12.83) of lecture cum demonstration. The improvement means percentage (12%) obtained for the post intervention knowledge scores of lectures cum demonstration and lecture cum video with ‘t’ value of 5.38 and 15.72 comparatively at p<0.05 level of significance shows that this is significant difference between posttest knowledge score of students in lecture cum demonstration and lecture cum video method on adult CPR. It also reveals that there is an enhancement of knowledge level indicating that lecture cum video method is more effective than lecture cum demonstration method.
