A Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge and Practice Regarding Prevention of Problems Related to Sunlight Exposure Among Traffic Police Personnel in Puducherry

Abstract


Objectives: To assess the level of knowledge and practice regarding prevention of problems related to sunlight exposure among traffic police personnel. To evaluate the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge and practice regarding prevention of problems related to sunlight exposure, to correlate between the knowledge and practice regarding prevention of problems related to sunlight exposure. Materials and Methods of study: A quasi experimental design (one group pretest posttest design) using Simple Random Sampling Technique. Result: 32(64%) had inadequate knowledge during pretest, greater strength of traffic police personnel 27(54%) had moderately adequate knowledge. The practice level in pretest 30(60%) had poor practice, 33(66%) had good practice during posttest. The teaching programme shows effectiveness and correlation with significant p value <0.0001. The association between knowledge with their demographic variables shows significant association between age, residence, education, working hour’s habit of using sunscreen lotion and the sources of information. Conclusion: The study revealed that the information module help to improve the knowledge of the traffic police regarding sunlight exposure effectiveness.
