Abstract

Cancer of the cervix is a significant public health problem commonly among women globally, especially in developing countries. Developing countries bear a disproportionate burden of the disease, experiencing age-standardized mortality rate that are twice than those experienced in developed countries. The present study was aimed at determining the effectiveness of self-instructional module (SIM) on cervical cancer on learning outcomes among married women in a selected Anganwadies under Mundur PHC. Objectives of the study were, to Assess the learning outcomes on prevention of cervical cancer among women of reproductive age. Evaluate the effectiveness of Self Instructional Module on knowledge of prevention of cervical cancer among women of reproductive age and find the Association between the demographic variables and the test scores of knowledge of women of reproductive age. A quasi experimental approach adopted for this study with one group pretest, posttest design among women of reproductive age between 18 and 60 years with the sample size of 50 married women, recruited by Random Sampling technique. Results: In pretest 60% of samples had average knowledge, 40% of samples had poor knowledge, 82% of samples had average attitude and 6% of samples had good attitude, 46% of sample had showed good knowledge of practice, 54% of samples had poor practice. In posttest, 32% of samples had secured average knowledge 68% of samples had good knowledge, 4% of samples had average attitude, 96% of samples had good attitude,46% of samples had poor knowledge of practice,54% of samples had good knowledge of practice. The ‘p’ value is >0.05 shows that there is significant knowledge score between before and after administering self-instructional module. The computed value of ‘p’ for association between knowledge and age is >0.05 (2.25>0.05), it is clear that there is high significant association between the knowledge and age of married women. Hence it is revealed that the self-instructional module is an effective method for improving learning outcomes.
