True experimental to assess the effectiveness of normal saline mouth wash on the prevention of oral mucositis among patients receiving chemotherapy in selected Hospital Maldives

Abstract

ABSTRACT
The present dissertation was undertaken to assess the effectiveness of normal saline mouth wash on the prevention of oral mucositis among patients receiving chemotherapy in selected hospital Maldives.
The objectives of the study are:
1. To assess the presence of oral mucositis among patients receiving chemotherapy after administration of saline mouth wash.
2. To find out the association of presence of oral mucositis among patients receiving chemotherapy after administration of normal saline with their selected demographic variables.
Research approach- Quantitative research approach was used. In which post test only control design was adopted in this study. To determine the effectiveness of saline mouth wash in preventing oral mucositis.Research design-The research design selected for the study was true experimental design (post test only control group design). Setting of the study-The study was conducted in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, Maldives. Study population-
Total population of the present study is 60 patients. Who are receiving chemotherapy in Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital,Maldives. Sample size-60 samples receiving chemotherapy, 30 samples in experimental group 30 samples in receiving saline mouthwash during chemotherapy and, 30 samples in control group. Sampling technique-Non-probability convenience sampling in which convenient sampling technique was adopted for this study. The researcher selected the most readily available persons meeting the inclusive criteria as participants in the study.Research tool and research technique-The tool to collect data from the selected samples consists of two sections.Section-A: Demographic Variables1. It consists of age, gender, education, occupation, income, religion, dietary pattern, family history of illness.Section-B: WHO mucositis assessment scale.
