Osteoarthritis is the third most leading cause of disease burden measured as disability adjusted life years (DALY) worldwide and is assumed that over years it will be a major economic burden over society. This condition usually occurs by a slow progression of degeneration of articular cartilage in the underlying bone at the joint margins. As per Unani system of medicine, derangement of four humours is responsible for occurrence of disease. The present study was carried out at Majeedia Hospital & Department of Moalejat, Faculty of Medicine, Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi. The main aim of the study was to observe the risk factors and demographic details in a sample population of patients of osteoarthritis. Our observations were based on age, sex, religion, occupation, dietary habits, smoking habits, BMI and Mizaj. Although obese and overweight individuals are more prone to development of osteoarthritis, but in this study, maximum number of patients were having normal BMI. Maximum patients (90%) in this study were non-smokers as majority of patients were females.
Mushtaq Ahmad PayerShiekh MohmadJunaid Nazir Dandroo

https://nursing.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=IJORN&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=2289

Background: pain is subjective in nature, the accuracy of the level of pain remains subjective; however, the objectivity is learnt by visual analog scale, yet the score and level of pain remains subjective in nature. Various types of pain are identified; among which, phantom pain is a pain felt like from the part that no longer is present due to amputation or traumatic injury. The phantom pain is perceived due to impulses from brain and spinal cord. Phantom pain is painful and common after amputation or traumatic injury. Hence the present study aims to educate the patients undergoing amputation and sensitize about phantom pain, its occurrence and self-management of sensation by assessing knowledge and educating about phantom pain. Methodology: one group pretest posttest design was selected, using purposive sampling technique, a total of 45 patients undergoing amputation due to various etiology (Diabetic, traumatic, elective, emergency) were selected from orthopedic units. A pretest was performed to assess the knowledge of phantom sensation and its management using structured questionnaire, following that an education program was conducted and posttest was conducted using same structured questionnaire. The effectiveness of the study was assessed by verbal communication by post-surgery patients about the phantom sensation and the means of their management and coping. The structured questionnaire had content validity index of 85% and reliability of 0.89. The collected scores were analyzed for statistical analysis in SPSS version 18.0 and results were interpreted. Results: the findings of the study revealed that the knowledge of the patients on phantom sensation and its management was poor and they had less understanding of pain and its coping; majority of the patients were anxious about surgery and its outcome. Post health educational program, the coping, management of phantom sensation was good in comparison to pretest scores and the results were supported by better managing of patients regarding phantom sensation. Conclusion: the present study designed to health educate the patients undergoing the amputation for the various causes, regarding the phantom sensation and its management. The study found that the health education was effective in bringing the desired change in perseverance of phantom sensation and coping it in better manner. Study like this should be carried out to large group of patients undergoing amputation surgery to combat the phantom sensation and to cope with the emotions and bring health perception.
Veeresh V G

Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) comprise a wide range of disorders of the muscles and bones, from those of acute onset and short duration to lifelong disorders, but the most prevalent are the arthritic disorders. The specific consequences of musculoskeletal conditions are pain, stiffness, loss of mobility of the joints, deformity, disability, and loss of independence, reduced numbers of social interactions, and a decline in well-being, and to a lesser degree mortality. The major impact of MSDs is on the quality of life and is determined not only by illness but also by personal, socioeconomic, environmental and other factors. Musculoskeletal disorders have overall worldwide impact, occur as a sequel of ageing and are less noticeable due to chronicity and no fatality. In Unani system of medicine, musculoskeletal disorders are described under a broad term “Waja-ul-Mafasil” and describe MSDs according to joints, muscles, or tendons involved such as, Waja-ul-Warik means Hip Joint pain, Wajauz-Zahr, means pain in deep and superficial muscles and tendons around the vertebral column. In Unani medicine, MSDs are mainly caused by changes in humoral temperament and accumulation of Mawad-e-Fasida in the joint cavities. A cross sectional community-based study was carried out to collect the data from house-to-house survey to identify the respondents between 18 and 60 years of age, with a sample size of 1000. A screening schedule and musculoskeletal diseases questionnaire was used to identify the positive respondents. Screened positive individuals were further evaluated for assessment of health status in musculoskeletal disorders by Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ). Present study was conducted with an objective to find out the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and assessment of health status in musculoskeletal disorders. For diagnosis of MSDs, Standard clinical criteria were used. Chi-square and Fisher Exact test were used to find the significance of noticeable parameters. The data was computed using Statistical software SAS 9.2, SPSS 15. The prevalence of MSDs was found to be 13.9% (p<0.001**) (139/1000), and more common in females 18% (91/506) (p<0.001**), as compared to males 9.7% (48/494). As per HAQ score, 35.98% (50/139) were moderately affectedShiekh MohmadMushtaqahmad PayerArish M.K. SherwaniYousuf Saleem

https://nursing.journalspub.info/index.php?journal=IJORN&page=article&op=view&path%5B%5D=2292
Compartment syndrome is a disorder in which the circulation and functionality of the things inside a small compartment are compromised by increased tissue pressure. This occurs when pressure is raised over a certain level for a long enough period of time to lower capillary perfusion. The neurons and muscles inside the afflicted compartment therefore get inadequate tissue oxygenation as a result of the deficient tissue perfusion. The female came to the hospital with the history of fall on the floor and the complaints of pain, decreased movements, swelling and tenderness in the left hand wrist for 1 week. She was diagnosed as Impending Compartment Syndrome of Left wrist. She underwent symptomatic treatment and elevation of hand (arm sling) for 1 week. After the treatment, she got discharged from the hospital.M. Manimehalai
