A Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude Regarding Importance of Play in Children among Mothers of Children under 12 years of Age in Selected Hospitals in Pala

Abstract


The study was conducted “To assess the knowledge and attitude regarding importance of play in children among mothers of children less than 12 years of age”. The objectives were to assess the knowledge regarding importance of play among mothers, to assess the attitude regarding importance of play among mothers, to determine the association between knowledge and selected demographic variables, to determine the association between attitude and selected demographic variables, and to find the relationship between knowledge and attitude regarding the importance of play. The research design used in the present study is non-experimental descriptive design. The study was conducted among 50 mothers of children under 12 years of age in selected hospitals in Pala, by using non-probability convenient sampling technique. After getting permission from hospital authority, data was collected to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding importance of play in children among mothers of children under 12 years of age by using the questionnaire. The data was analyzed and interpreted using descriptive and inferential statistics. Result showed that among 50 samples 36% of mothers have good knowledge regarding importance of play, 58% of mothers have average knowledge, 6% of mothers have poor knowledge. 50% of mothers have favourable attitude and 50% have unfavourable attitude. There was significant association between knowledge and educational level (demographic variable) of mothers. And there was significant association between attitude and demographic variables such as education and income of mothers. There is significant correlation between knowledge and attitude regarding importance of play among mothers.
