Abstract

The present study was aimed to assess the effect of post-operative feeding technique orientation among mothers of children undergoing orofacial cleft surgery. Objectives: Assess the mother’s level of knowledge on post-operative feeding technique. Methodology: A quantitative evaluative approach with one-group pre-test–post-test pre-experimental design was used. Forty mothers were selected using non-probability purposive sampling technique from paediatric surgical ward of Jubilee Mission Medical College Hospital and Research Institute, Thrissur. Results: The mean pre-test score was 14.75 and post-test score was 26.23 in knowledge and significant was at p-value 0.001 levels. A significant association was found between age in years (p = 0.02), education (p = 0.04), previous knowledge (p = 0.02) and diagnosis (p = 0.02) with pre-test level of knowledge and education (p = 0.01), previous practice (p = 0.02), and previous knowledge (p = 0.03). Conclusion: On the basis of the above findings, it was found that the level of knowledge of mothers in post-operative feeding technique had a significant positive correlation with selected demographic variables.
