Effectiveness of Planned Teaching Programme on Knowledge Regarding National Nutritional Programme for Children among Anganwadi Workers from Selected Anganwadi Centres at Mangalore Rural Area

Abstract


Nutrition play a very important role in maintaining proper growth and development among the children’s under the age of 6 years. Anganwadis are the part of Indian public health care system which mainly focus on implementing various health care activities to prevent malnutrition among pre-schoolers especially in rural or village areas with the help of anganwadi workers. The main objectives of the study was to assess the effectiveness of planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding national nutritional programme for children among anganwadi workers from selected Anganwadi centre at Mangalore rural area. Methodology: a one group pre-test and post-test pre-experimental design, the samples were chosen by purposive sampling techniques, consist 40 anganwadi workers from selected anganwadi centres at rural areas of Mangalore Taluk, and a  structured knowledge questionnaire is given to assess the knowledge regarding national nutritional program for children .Which followed by an intervention giving a planned teaching program on national nutritional program for children and administering the same questionnaire to assess the post test. Results: The overall mean post-test knowledge score regarding national nutritional program for children (30.25±5.88) was significantly higher than overall mean pre-test knowledge score regarding national nutritional program for children (16.95±4.66) and the obtained‘t’ value was 22.96, which was higher than the table value. There was no significant association found between the pre-test knowledge score with the demographic variables of anganwadi workers
