Abstract

Background and Objectives: The study aims to assess the effectiveness of oral probiotics regarding the prevention of Necrotizing enterocolitis in low birth weight babies at selected hospitals of Panipat. Materials and Methods: A quasi-experimental research design was selected for the study. The purposive t-sampling technique was chosen for the sample size of 60 (30 in control and 30 in experimental group). The tool used in the study for data collection one checklist and inferential observation. Descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in analysing the collected data. Result: The study findings revealed with regard to experimental and control group inferential observation that the mean and SD post-test score (6.97±1.245) and the mean % is 77.41 in experimental and the t-value is 2.002 at the p-value is <0.001, which was significant with regard to the control group mean and SD post-test (2.83±1.683) and the mean % 31.48 in the control group, and the result of checklist in experimental group mean and SD is (4.93±1.112) and t-value is 2.002 and p-value is <0.001 and in control group, mean and SD are (2.80±0.997). The effectiveness of oral probiotics in experimental is highly responded to. There was a statically significant association between the post-test of both groups. Conclusion: The study concluded that the use of oral probiotics is effective regarding the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis among low birth weight babies.
