Assess The Neonatal Nutritional Status in Relation To Maternal Indicators In Postnatal Wards

Abstract


ABSTRACT: Nutrition is important at every age. Good nutrition is essential for survival,
physical development, mental development, adequate health & well being 1 . Malnutrition
during neonatal period can also affect growth potential and the risk of morbidity and
mortality in later years of life 2 .Maternal indicators place a crucial role in influencing foetal
growth and birth outcome 3 .The present study aims at assessment of nourishment of neonate in
relation to maternal indicators like physical, socioeconomic status, obstetric and perinatal
conditions.
Methods: A quantitative approach with descriptive analytical design was used. Ninety eight
samples were collected as per inclusion criteria.

Results: Among 98 subjects with new-borns, about 48% of neonates were found
malnourished and 52% were nourished based on CAN score and also observed that neonatal
nutritional status is significantly associated with religion (p=0.03) and maternal weightgain
(p=0.002).

Conclusion: The study concluded that the neonatal nutritional status has significant

association with religion and maternal weight gain during pregnancy.
