Abstract

Aim: The study aims to assess the effectiveness of module-based teaching regarding facility-based
newborn care in terms of knowledge and skills among nursing students. Materials and Methods: The
methodology of the present study was a pre-experimental research design. Sample size of the study was
60 B.Sc. Nursing students selected with convenient sampling technique. Self-structured knowledge

questionnaire on facility-based newborn was used for data collection. Data collection method was self-
structured knowledge questionnaire method and checklist. Data analysis was done with the help of

descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The study findings reveal with regard to the mean score of
pre-test knowledge are 14.28. (SD=±3.678) and post-test score is 26.28 (SD=±4). The mean difference is
12.00. The paired ‘t’ test value is 16.086. The ‘p’ value is <0.001 which was significant. The mean score
of pre-test breast feeding checklist is 1.53 (SD=±0.987). The mean score of post-test breast feeding
checklist is 4.6 (SD=±0.552). The mean difference is 3.070. The paired ‘t’ test value is 25.873. The ‘p’
value is <0.001 which was significant. The mean score of pre-tests KMC checklist is 2.55 (SD=±0.964).
The mean score of post-tests KMC checklist is 8.93 (SD=±0.899). The mean difference is 6.380. The
paired ‘t’ test value is 39.135. The ‘p’ value is <0.001 which was significant. Hence, module-based
teaching programme on facility-based newborn care was effective in increasing the level of knowledge
and skills among nursing students. There was no statistically significant association between pre-test and
post-test level of knowledge and skills of samples with socio-demographic variables. Conclusion: The
study concluded that the module-based teaching programme was effective in enhancing the knowledge
and skills of nursing students regarding facility-based newborn care.
