KNOWLEDGE LEVEL OF PRIMIGRAVIDA MOTHERS REGARDING EXCLUSIVE BREAST FEEDING: AN EVALUATIVE SURVEY APPROACH

Abstract


The critical aspect of child health and survival is infant and young child feeding. The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge level of primigravida mothers regarding exclusive breast feeding. Quantitative research approach (evaluative survey approach) with non-experimental research design was used for the study. By non-probability convenient sampling method 30 samples were selected. Data was collected by using a structured questionnaire. Assurance was given to each study participants before starting the data collection. Ethical clearance was obtained from the Institutional research board. The tool used in the study consists of 2 sections, Socio demographic variable and self-structured knowledge questionnaire on breastfeeding. The present study concluded that primi gravida mothers of 0(0%) had adequate knowledge, 19(63.3%) had moderate knowledge and 11(36.7%) had inadequate knowledge regarding exclusive breast feeding.
