Effect of Empower U Programme on perception of self esteem among early adolescents

Abstract


The present study investigated the effect of Empower U Programme on perception of self esteem among early adolescents in a selected school, Kottayam District. Empower U programme is an educational programme designed to modify self esteem in two repeated sessions for 1 hour with a gap of 3 days using lecture cum discussion method with the help of power point. The objectives of the study were to assess the pretest score of perception of self esteem before Empower U Programme, to evaluate the effect of Empower U Programme on perception of self esteem and to find association between pretest score of perception of self esteem and selected demographic variables. Pre experimental one group pretest- post test design was employed. The study was carried out in St. Mary’s CBSE School, Manarcad, Kottayam. A total of 120 early adolescents were selected using total enumeration sampling technique. The tools used for the study were demographic proforma of early adolescents and Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale. The present study with regard to the perception of self esteem indicated that the level of self esteem has been increased after Empower U Programme (t (119) = 2.61, p<0.001. Findings also revealed that there was significant association between perception of self esteem and sex. The study concludes that Empower U Programme is an effective interventional programme to modify the perception of self esteem of early adolescents.
