To Assess the Knowledge Level of Mothers of Under Five Children on Prevention of Acute Respiratory Infection

Arya Chandran

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge of the mothers because mother’s knowledge regarding the prevention of ARI was very much important in reducing mortality rate in children. Quantitative research approach with non-experimental research design was used in the study. The study was conducted in general pediatric ward of Taluk hospital, Parassala. The demographic data was collected by face to face interview method held with the mothers. Structured questionnaire containing 20 questions was used for assessing the knowledge level. The samples were given 15 minutes to complete the answers. The duration for data collection was 1 month. By using convenience sampling technique 30 samples were selected and administered self-prepared questionnaire. Consent was obtained from the hospital authorities and from each sample before starting the data collection. Ethical clearance was obtained from Institutional Research Board. The study revealed that among the mothers 0(0%) had inadequate knowledge, 23(76.66%) had moderate knowledge and 7 (23.33%) had adequate knowledge regarding prevention of ARI. The association between the level of knowledge of mothers on prevention of ARI with selected demographic variables shows that there was a statistically significant level of knowledge.
