A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude of Nurses Towards Kangaroo Mother Care Working in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Selected Hospitals of District Faridkot Punjab, India with a Purpose to Develop an Information Booklet

Abstract


Kangaroo mother care is very essential for low birth weight babies as well as other babies, as it helps to reduce neonatal mortality and morbidity. Therefore, this study aimed at assessing the knowledge and attitude of staff nurses working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of selected hospitals of district Faridkot. Convenient sampling method was used to allocate study subjects. Study was conducted on 50 staff nurses. A structured questionnaire containing 43 multiple-choice items was used to assess the knowledge and attitude of staff nurses working in NICU of selected hospitals of district Faridkot. The results showed that nurses have adequate knowledge regarding kangaroo mother care and have a positive attitude towards it. Both the variables did not show any significant association with designation of staff nurses, gender, and age, and academic qualification, professional qualification of staff nurses, total clinical experience, NICU experience, in-service experience and type of hospital
