An Analysis to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Prepared Academic Initiative on Knowledge and Attitude Concerning the use of Partograph among Staff Nurses Working in Obstetrics and Gynecological Department of Selected Hospitals in Wayanad

Abstract


Introduction: The present analysis investigated the effectiveness of organized educational initiative on knowledge and attitude regarding use of partograph among staff nurses running in obstetrics and gynecological department of DM WIMS medical College hospital. The objective of the analysis serve to evaluate the understandings on use of Partograph among staff nurses working in obstetrics and gynaecological department of selected hospitals in Wayanad. To evaluate the attitudes toward the use of Partograph among staff nurses working in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of a selected hospital, as well as the effectiveness of a structured teaching programme on knowledge and attitude on use of Partograph among staff nurses working in Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of selected hospital. Materials and Methods: The method of study was quasi-experimental one group pre-test post- test design. A total of 35 staff nurses working in obstetrics and gynecological department of DM WIMS Hospital were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The pretest knowledge assessment was done with a structured questionnaire, attitude was observed by using Likert’s scale. Result: The expertise level of the subjects the pretest shows that, 85.71% of staff nurses had poor knowledge on use of partograph, 14.28% had good knowledge. The post test shows that 100% of staff nurses had good knowledge on use of partograph which has also found statistically significant (p<0.01). The attitude level of pre-test shows that 85.7% of staff nurses had moderatley favourable level of attitude and 14.28% had favourable level of attitude and the post test shows that 100% of staff nurses had favourable level of attitude on use of partograph. After planned teaching programme which has also found statistically significant (p<0.01). Discussion: This study reconfirmed that structured teaching programme are more effective to improve the knowledge and attitude regarding use of partograph among staff nurses working in obstetrics and gynecological department.
