Abstract

Parents today worry about the future of their children and how the outside world will view them, which leads to parental pressure. In our country, schools also want those students who are best and brightest, to maintain their school’s reputation and standard also. So, growing expectations of parents coupled with academic pressure may cause stress and anxiety. Our study's objectives were to evaluate the impacts of parental pressure on academic performance among children (12–15 years old) at Jammu's Model Academy school and to ascertain the relationships between those effects and the students' chosen sociodemographic characteristics. The research design selected for the study was descriptive and quantitative research approach was used in the study. The primary study was carried out in Jammu's Model Academy school. 60 students were selected through convenient sampling technique and checklist was used to assess the level of parental pressure which consisted of 26 statements. The study had shown that out of 60 samples, maximum 51 (85%) students had moderate level parental pressure, followed by 06 (10%) students who had severe parental pressure and only 03 had mild parental pressure. Hence it was concluded that maximum 51 (85%) students had moderate parental pressure. There is no association between the study related parental pressure among students with their selected socio-demographic variables.
