Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme Regarding Knowledge on Menopausal Symptoms and Its Management Among Women in Selected Urban Areas at Mysuru

Abstract


The study aimed at assessing the knowledge of women regarding menopausal symptoms and its management. Many physiological and psychological changes occur during menopausal period. Menopausal problems are the common health problem facing by the menopausal women across the world. By providing sufficient knowledge regarding the symptoms and management of menopausal problems will help the women to cope up with the changing situation and can lead a normal life. Preexperimental, one group pre and posttest design was used, with non-probability sampling technique in which purposive sampling was used. Information was collected from 50 women using structured interview schedule. STP was implemented and posttest was conducted after 7 days using the same interview schedule. Mean pretest level of knowledge was 16.52 with mean percentage of 41.3 percentages with a SD of 3.3. Mean pretest level of knowledge shows that majority of the respondents (70%) fall in inadequate knowledge level. In the posttest, significant increase in knowledge was found. Mean posttest level of knowledge was 32.40 with mean percentage of 81.0 percentages with a SD of 3.0. Mean posttest level of knowledge shows that majority of the respondents (72%) fall in adequate knowledge level. The overall findings of the study showed that there is knowledge deficit among women regarding menopausal symptoms and its management. The result has proved STP was significantly effective in improving knowledge
