Screening and Education Program on Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome among College Girls

Abstract

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a common health problem which growths among teenage girls and young women during their generative years. Evidence exists that imparting knowledge to the adolescents and young girls helps to reduce the risk for the later age. A study was done among college girls in PCOS with quasi-experimental design (One group pre-test post-test design). 150 college girls studying at The Salvation Army Catherine Booth College of Nursing were selected conveniently. Screening was done to identify the risk groups.1.3% are found to be high risk group, 4% are found to be moderate risk 8% under low risk remaining are found to be no risk. Socio demographic data and pre-test was done to identify the basic information. Education program was given and post-test was done after one week. Results showed that there was effectiveness in the education program with the post test mean of 9.66. There was significant association between pre- test knowledge and age of the college girls at 0.05 significant level.
