A Case of Pilocytic Astrocytoma: A Low-Grade Glioma (LGG) During Pregnancy that Requires Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP)

Cletta Tressi Tauro, Sandhya Dalmeida

Abstract

Pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) is typically a slow-growing astrocytoma and is therefore considered the ‘most benign’ of all the astrocytoma. PA is often encountered in relatively young individuals, including women of childbearing age, but growth is rarely reported. Its management is particularly challenging since anti-tumor therapy is required and the impact on the fetus or the pregnancy would require consideration, or the pregnancy would have to be discontinued, depending on the severity of the disease and the gestational age.
This study reports a multigravida mother with pilocytic astrocytoma with gestational age of 16 weeks. Currently planned for medical termination of pregnancy.
