A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge Level of Selected Character Defect among Adolescents in a Selected Village at Kanyakumari District

Abstract


The present study was undertaken to assess the knowledge level of selected character defect among adolescents in a selected village at Kanyakumari district. The aim of the study is to assess the knowledge regarding selected character defect among adolescents. To find out the association between knowledge regarding selected character defect and socio-demographic variables. Research approach: Quantitative research approach was used. Research design: A descriptive design was selected for this study. Setting of the study: The study was conducted at Kandanvillai village, Kanyakumari district. Sample size: The target population for the study comprised 30 adolescents from Kandanvillai village. Sampling method: Convenient sampling technique. Research tool and research technique: The tool consists of two sections: Section 1: Demographic data consist of general information like age, education, religion, type of family, and place of living. Section 2: Questionnaire to assess the knowledge of selected character defect (alcoholism, smoking, drug abuse), which consists of 20 questions; each question has four responses and one is the correct answer. Data analysis: Section A: Socio-demographic variables of the adolescents. Section B: Level of knowledge regarding selected character defect among adolescents. Section C: Association of the demographic variables of adolescents with level of knowledge. Section D: Mean and standard deviation of the variables. Result: 3.33% of the adolescents had adequate knowledge with regards to selected character defect. 33.3% of adolescents had moderate knowledge with regards to selected character defect. 63.33% of adolescents had inadequate knowledge with regards to selected character defect.
