PATTERN OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND BMI AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

Abstract


Physical activity results in increased exercise capacity and physical fitness which may lead to many health benefits. Physical activity has great importance for nursing students to achieve optimal health. They are also expected to serve as a role model for patients to enhance body activity. The present study has been undertaken to assess pattern of physical activity among nursing students at Sri Guru Ram Das College of Nursing, Vallah, Sri Amritsar.

The study sample was selected by using total enumerate sampling. The sample size consisted of 194 subjects. Pattern of physical activity assessed by using self-structured questionnaire that includes three parts, Part-A contain demographic variables, Part-B questions for Pattern of Physical activity, Part-C consists of Measurement parameters of Nursing students. The results shows that 55.7% nursing students exercise regularly while 44.3% do light exercise and 53.1% students do moderate exercise. Maximum students perceived themselves as physical active. The physical activity was found to be significantly associated with demographic variables.
