A DESCRIPTIVE STUDY TO ASSESS THE KNOWLEDGE OF MOTHERS REGARDING WEANING AMONG CHILDREN OF AGE 6MONTHS- 2YEARS IN SELECTED COMMUITY AREA AMB GHAROTA, JAMMU

Abstract


Child health in developing countries is a serious concern with a large number of children
suffering from malnutrition. There are various factors that lead to high prevalence of
malnutrition in children among them infant feeding practices is one of the most important.
Whether it is breast feeding or complementary feeding, the practices adopted by mothers or care
takers have direct effect on child health. The study was undertaken to assess the knowledge of
mother’s regarding weaning among children of age 6months-2years and to determine the
association between the levels of knowledge regarding weaning among mothers. The research
design adopted for the study was descriptive design. A non-experimental approach was adopted
for the present study. Non-probability purposive sampling technique was used to select 50
samples of mothers of 6months-2year children. The tool used for the study was self-administered
knowledge questionnaire. The data analysis was done by descriptive and inferential statistical
results revealed that maximum number 50% of subjects had inadequate knowledge regarding
weaning whereas 46% had moderate knowledge regarding weaning and 4% subjects had
adequate knowledge.
