An Exploratory Study to Assess the Health Status of Families in Terms of their Nutritional Status and Mental Health Status in Selected Area of Sir Hind Fatehgarh Sahib (Punjab)

Abstract


Study assesses the health status of families in terms of their nutritional status, mental health status and quality of life in selected area of Sir Hind fatehgarh sahib (Punjab). Quantitative research approach and non-experimental exploratory research design was used to accomplish the stated objectives. The conceptual framework was based on Holistic health model. Data was collected with the help standardized tool for the assessment of nutritional status. A pilot study was done on 15 subjects (1/10th sample) which constituted from Amloh. The study was conducted on 150 family members where 50 were children of age (5–15 years), 50 were adults of age (30–45 years) and 50 were old age (60–80 years). The sample was selected using Stratified simple random sampling technique. The data collected was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. The pie and bar diagrams were used to depict the findings. The study highlighted that most of family members were of age group 5–20 years (33.33%) more of family members were males (52.67%), majority of family members educated up to primary level (42.67%), maximum joint families (70%) were there majority of family members were vegetarian (63%), family annual income highly earned income was 2,40000–3,20000(33.33%), majority of members were Hindu (56.67%) and mostly were married (66.67%) From whole population some were studied (33.33%) and most of family members have no past health history (95.33%).It also showed that health status of families in terms of their nutritional status the majority of subjects (children) were underweight that is 35 (70%). Health status of families in terms of their mental health status according to the severity 28(56%) study subjects were suffered from mild cognitive impairment. There was significant association of some variables with nutritional status i.e. Type of family, education and family income.
