Karpagavalli Nageswaran, Sundari Apte

Abstract

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is a process to utilize extensively appraised and systematically proven evidence to deliver excellent health care to the stakeholders. EBPs facilitate the nurses to make decisions in nursing care. Keeping this in point of view, the researchers felt a need to assess the knowledge, attitude and self-reported practices on EBPs in nursing among nursing staff. The objectives of the present study were to assess the level of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practices on EBPs in nursing among nursing staff and to find the association between the demographic variables with findings. The approach was quantitative with exploratory descriptive survey design; the samples were 200 hospital staff and nursing faculties who met the sampling criteria. The non-probability purposive sampling technique was used for the present study. The findings of demographic data revealed that 64.5% sample belong to the age group 25–40 years, gender majority were females (85.5%), 64% of them were working as staff nurses and 39% of sample had 2–5 years of working experience. Level of knowledge, attitude and self-reported practices on EBPs in nursing among sample was as follows—only 35% had adequate knowledge, 100% of them had a positive attitude and only 95% had reported adequate self-reported practices. The association found with age, designation, education and experience in level of knowledge and self-reported practices was reported only for education as p-value was less than 0.05%.
