An Evaluation to Determine Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Aromatherapy in Management of Stress-related Hypertension Among Nursing Students in Selected Colleges, Bangalore

Abstract


In a chosen college in Bangalore, a quasi-experimental study has been done to determine the efficacy of a structured training programme on aromatherapy in the management of stress-related hypertension among nursing students. Stress is believed to affects the parameters like blood pressure regulation thus can cause an increase in blood pressure by the production of stress-related hormones. Stress can cause a considerable high mortality and morbidity among patients if not kept under control. A result of which can be a high rate of mortality and morbidly. The chances of patients suffering from uncontrolled hypertension die more often have higher rates of heart attacks or strokes or heart failure incidences as compared with patients who have other morbidities. Finally, people with hypertension experience higher rates of mortality, heart attacks, strokes, and heart failure. It is estimated that the possibilities of patients with cardiovascular diseases replicates for every 20/100 mmHg over 115/75 mmHg, in terms of the calculated blood pressure recording. Stress is found to be a motivation factor if exposed in small sequences, “it can help you perform under pressure and motivate you to do your best but when you’re constantly running in emergency mode, your mind and body pay the price.Some of the recent studies in India estimate that one-third of high blood pressure is the main cause of 57% of the stroke-related mortality and CAD-related mortality. Health problems are mainly caused by the health can be affected by many factors like pain, depression, hypertension, sleep deprivation, and so on, in order to tackle these health issues, there are a number of complimentary therapies that have been found effective. These therapies help alleviate the symptoms and to some extend help reduce the impact it makes on the health of the patient. Some of the techniques, which are found to have scientifically reduce the level of stress may be mentioned as aromatherapy, deep breathing exercise, yoga, and so forth. As a consequence of the above cited basis, it can be concluded that the student nurses should have genuine knowledge on stress-related hypertension and its different complimentary therapies. These will in turn motivate the students into becoming health professionals who will concentrate on dealing with the stress related hypertension at the preventive level than at the disease level. Aromatherapy is one of the most often utilised methods for reducing stress. Thus, arises, the need to improve the level of knowledge of the student nurses on the proper use of aromatherapy and the impact it can have to help in the reduction of stress among patients with stress related hypertension.
