A QUASI EXPERIMENTAL STUDY TO EVALUATE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF LAUGHTER YOGA IN REDUCING DEPRESSION AMONG ELDERLY PEOPLE (ABOVE 60 YEARS) IN SELECTED VILLAGES OF LUDHIANA, PUNJAB.

Abstract


The present study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of laughter yoga in reducing
depression among elderly people (above 60 Years) in the selected villages of Ludhiana, Punjab.
The motivation behind the study is to evaluate the viability of chuckling yoga among the
burdensome elderly persons in order to reduce the level of depression and enhance the quality of
life. Conceptual framework was based on Wiedenbach’s Conceptualization of Nursing Practice
and Process Methodology: A quantitative evaluator approach was used for this study. The review
was done in two chosen village of Ludhiana, Punjab. The sample of 60 older people. The test was

determined by utilising a purposive technique. Data collection was done in the month of March.
Written permission from Sarpanches of selected villages and informed consent from the elderly
was taken. Data was collected by administering the Geriatric Depression Scale and Demographic
Tool. Information was investigated by utilizing enlightening and inferential measurements.
Findings: The results of this study showed that the Percentage Distribution of Pre test and Post test
score level of depression in pre-test of experimental group 53.3% elderly were having mild
depression and 46.7% elderly were having moderate depression In control group 43.3% of elderly
had mild depression 56.6% had moderate depression. In post-test of experimental group 36.6%
elderly were normal 50% elderly were having mild depression and 13% elderly were having
moderate depression. In control group 46.6% elderly had mild depression and 53.3% elderly had
moderate depression. Here, it shows that laughter yoga is effective in reducing the level of
depression among elderly person in experimental group. The stark contrast between post-test older
discouragements scores in experimental and control bunch So, research speculation was
acknowledged. Conclusion: The findings of this study support the need to practice laughter yoga
to prevent depression among elderly. This study proved that the laughter yoga had effect on
depression among elderly people.
