Swanjeet Kaur, Ravinder Kaur, Tajinder Kaur

Abstract

The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge of dementia among caregivers of elderly individuals through pretest and posttest assessments in two selected villages. The target population was primary caregivers of old age people. Primary caregivers of old age persons were selected by convenient sampling method of non-probability sampling technique. Sample size was 60 primary caregivers of old age persons. The experimental group comprised 30 participants, and the control group consisted of another 30 individuals. After engaging in a structured teaching program focused on dementia, 57% of primary caregivers in the experimental group showed an average knowledge score, while 43% displayed a good knowledge score. The posttest mean knowledge score among primary caregivers in the experimental group was significantly greater than that of the control group, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Additionally, it was expected that the mean posttest knowledge score regarding dementia would significantly surpass the mean pretest score.
