A Descriptive Study to Assess the Prevalence and Causes of Abortion Among Women of Reproductive Age Group in Selected Hospitals of District Ambala, Haryana
Abstract
Abortion is the expulsion of product of conception before 20th week of gestation or if the weight is 500 grams or less. The most commonly reported reason for having an abortion is to postpone or stop childbearing. The research design adopted was descriptive. 300 reproductive age group women were selected by using non-probability purposive sampling technique. A structured interview schedule was prepared to assess the prevalence and causes of abortion. The reliability of tool was ascertained by using Guttman’s split-half coefficient. Descriptive and Iinferential statistics was used to analyze the data. The finding of the study shows that the majority of 74% reproductive age group women were not suffered from abortion and 26% reproductive age group women suffered from abortion. The main causes of the abortion were found out in the study were heavy weight lifting (14.10%), complete family (11.53%), drugs, chemicals and noxious agents (11.53%), and IUGR (10.25%).
