Abstract

Background: Antenatal care (ANC) refers to the comprehensive health supervision that is given to a pregnant woman from the time that conception is confirmed until the beginning of labor. It is important in preventing, monitoring, early detecting, and treating health problems for pregnant women and her family. Objective: To assess satisfaction with ANC service and associated factors among pregnant women attending ANC at Public Hospitals in Harar Town, Eastern Ethiopia. Methodology: A descriptive cross-sectional study design was conducted on pregnant women attending ANC service at Public Hospitals in Harar Town, Eastern Ethiopia. The calculated sample allocated proportionally for each hospital depending on the client load. The collected data were checked manually for completeness, then cleaned and stored for consistency and entered in to Epi-Data version 3.1 software, and then it was exported to statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) version 21 software for analysis. All variables were taken into the multivariable model by considering a p-value of ≤0.25 to see the correlation between dependent and independent variables. The results of bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were presented in COR and AOR with 95% confidence intervals, and p-value ≤0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Out of total, 394 study participants were involved, making a response rate of 97.3 %. Overall, 289 (73%) of the women were satisfied and the rest 105 (26.6%) were unsatisfied with the ANC services. Housewives were found 2.37 times more likely satisfied when compared to government employees with AOR 2.37 95% CI (1.19, 4.70) and women with history of abortion were 2.4 times more likely satisfied when compared to those with no history of abortion with AOR 2.42 95% CI: (1.04, 5.65). Those clients attending two or more ANC visits, 66% more likely satisfied when compared to those clients attending first ANC visit with AOR 0.24 95% CI: (0.14, 0.41) clients whose current pregnancy was planned were 3.07 times more likely satisfied when compared to those with unplanned pregnancy with AOR 3.07 95% CI: (1.3,7.13).
