Background: Basic Life Support (BLS) includes recognition of signs of sudden cardiac arrest, heart attack, foreign body airway obstruction, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, etc. The goal of BLS is to maintain viability of the central nervous system, heart, and other vital organs until definitive return of spontaneous circulation can be achieved. Method: Quasi experimental study pre-test post-test design without control group was used to assess the effectiveness of training programme on knowledge level regarding BLS on 200 nursing students using non-probability purposive sampling technique. Data gathered was structured questionnaire which had 10 questions. Result: The training program on BLS was effective in improving the knowledge of the students. It was evident that the area like legal aspects in training program may had more effectiveness than other areas however the range of effectiveness was 48% and 50% with overall effectiveness of 48%(r=0.76).Conclusion: From study findings, it was evident that before training, nursing students had average level of knowledge on basic life support. While after the training program, it was observed that there was an improvement in the knowledge of BLS in incremental direction.
