A Pre- Experimental Study to Evaluate the Effectiveness of an Interventional Package on Selected Physiological and Psychological Parameters Among Clients Undergoing Haemodialysis in a Selected Hospital, Panipat

Abstract

Background of the study: Kidney is an important organ of our body. The primary function of kidney is to regulate the volume and composition of extracellular fluid (ECF) and excrete waste products from our body. It helps in maintaining the body in a healthy state. Haemodialysis is a treatment to filter wastes and water from body’s blood. Haemodialysis helps to control blood pressure and balance electrolytes, such as potassium, sodium and calcium in blood Methods and Materials: The pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was used in the present study which included 50 Haemodialysis patients from selected hospital of Panipat, Haryana selected by convenient sampling technique. Tool of study consist of Socio-Demographic Variable, Brief Pain Inventory Scale, Dialysis Malnutrition Scale, Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale, Hamilton Depression Rating Scale. SPSS 2.0 was used for descriptive and inferential statistics. Result: The overall effectiveness of the intervention strategies was established among the subjects. during the post assessment stage. A significant reduction was seen in the mean scores of levels of pain (Mean=1.86 at post-test), malnutrition (Mean=2.38 at post-test), anxiety (Mean=2.48 at post-test) and depression (Mean=2.20 at post-test) among the study subjects at the post assessment stage. Interpretations and Conclusion: The study findings revealed that interventional package given to the Haemodialysis patients helps to enhance the quality of life of Haemodialysis patients.
