Shivaraj S Annigeri

Abstract

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of self-instructional module on knowledge regarding prevention of varicose veins among traffic police personnel in a selected police station, Bellary.

Objectives:

  • Determine the present knowledge of traffic police personnel on prevention of varicose veins by administering self-structured knowledge questionnaires.
  • Find out the effectiveness of self-instructional module on prevention of varicose veins as measured by gain in post test knowledge score by administering the same self-structured knowledge questionnaires
  • Find out association between pre-test knowledge score and selected demographic variables among traffic police personnel.

Method:

Pre experimental one group pre-test, post-test design was adopted for the study. A total of 40 samples were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The level of knowledge among traffic police was assessed by using self-structured knowledge questionnaires.

Result:

The study result showed that the pre-test mean score was (14.6) and SD was 2.67 whereas post-test mean score was (25.12) and SD was 3.11. The mean difference was 10.52. Calculated t value was 24.93 and it is greater than the critical value (1.685) hence the null hypothesis was rejected and research hypothesis was accepted so this indicates that there is significant increase in the knowledge score of traffic police personnel regarding prevention of varicose vein after Self-instructional Module. The age of the traffic police personnel is associated with the pretest knowledge score regarding prevention of varicose vein. Whereas gender, work experience, working hours, and educational status showed that there is no association with the pretest knowledge score.
