Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching Programme (VATP) on Breast Cancer among Urban Women

Abstract


Context: Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer in women, and the second main cause of cancer death in women. It is estimated that the majority of malignant cancers, as many as 70%, are the result of harmful factors related to diet, lifestyle or the surrounding environment. Breast cancer occurrence rates are high in advanced countries and much lower in less advanced countries including India. Objective: The present study aimed to assess the level of knowledge regarding breast cancer among urban women before and after VATP residing at Karungalpalayam. Methods: The research approach utilized in this study was quantitative Evaluative research approach and design adopted was quasi experimental research design. Setting was Women residing at Karungalpalaym village. Non-probability convenient sampling technique was used in this study and also checklist was used for data collection. Results: In pre-test 2% of the urban women had poor knowledge, 57 % of the urban women had inadequate knowledge, 38% of the urban women had adequate knowledge and 3 % of the urban women had highly adequate knowledge. In the post-test majority (67 %) of the urban women had adequate knowledge, 26 % of them had highly adequate knowledge and 5 % of urban women had inadequate knowledge, 2% of urban women had poor knowledge. Conclusion: The findings of the study reveal the level of knowledge of Breast Cancer among Urban Women had adequate knowledge.
