Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to determine the psychosocial problems and plan of actions of post-menopausal women in selected communities of Ludhiana. A descriptive method was used for the study. The sample composed of fifty post-menopausal women chosen by purposive random sampling technique. Information was assembled by a structured interview plan on psychosocial problems and coping strategies amongst post-menopausal women drawn up by the investigator. Gathered data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The detection of the study showed that thirty seven (74%) post-menopausal women were having average psychosocial problems, thirteen (26%) of them were having mild psychosocial problems and none of them were having serious psychosocial difficulties. A larger part (74%) of the post-menopausal women acquired sufficient coping strategies and least (26 %) of them adopted deficient coping strategies. The study reveals that there is a notable association of the level of psychosocial problems with the chosen demographic variables like educational level, monthly income, religion, most supportive person in the family and the duration of menopause. The calculated χ2 value of educational status, monthly income, religion, the most supportive person in the family and duration of menopause in years were more than the table values at a level of significance. The calculated Chi-square values for age, marital status, occupation, type of family, member of any social groups, parity and age of attainment of menopause were less than the table value, hence the null hypothesis is accepted.
