Abstract

Every woman feels that being a mother is the most gifted position in her life. Childbirth is a moment of joy, at the same time it is a time of pain and stress. Labor as a life event, is characterized by tremendous physiological changes and pain. Women need to adopt and adjust during labor within a short period of time. Many non-pharmacologic methods relieve labor pain. Hot application is the best method to relieve pain during labor. The objectives of the study were to assess the level of pain perception in the first stage of labor among primigravid women during pre-test, to evaluate the effectiveness of hot application on labor pain perception in first stage of labor during post-test and to find out the association between the level of pain perception in first stage of labor with selected demographic variables. The study was conducted in the labor ward. 30 primigravid women during active phase of labor with 3cm cervical dilatation were selected as samples by using a convenient sampling technique. A numerical pain rating scale was used to assess pain perception. The result revealed that the obtained Wilcoxon value was -3.624 and p value was 0.000***. It was highly statistically significant at p<0.001 level. There is a significant difference between pre-test and post-test values of pain level. It showed that hot application was effective in reduction of labor pain perception among primigravid women in first stage of labor.
