A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge and Attitude among Married Women Regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana in the Selected Rural Area at Mudh, Jalandhar with a View to Prepare an Information Booklet

Abstract


Janani Suraksha Yojana is launched for reducing maternal and neo-natal mortality rate. This scheme
was launched on 12th April 2005 by the honorable Prime Minister in all States and UTs with special
focus on low performing states. So, the researcher took interest in bringing out the facts about Janani
Suraksha Yojana. Descriptive study is the exploration and descriptive of phenomena in the real-life
situation. It provides an accurate account of characteristics of particular individuals, group or
situation. Hence a descriptive study to assess the knowledge and attitude of married women regarding
Janani Suraksha Yojana in the selected rural area at Mudh with a view to prepare an information
booklet was carried out by group E in partial fulfillment for the award of Bachelor of Science in
Nursing at Bharat College of Nursing, Mudh (Jalandhar). The objectives of the study were to: • Assess
the existing attitude knowledge regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana among married women. • Assess the
existing attitude regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana among married women with 5-point Likert type
attitude scale. • Find the association between existing knowledge and attitude regarding Janani
Suraksha Yojana among married women with selected demographic variables. • Correlation between
existing knowledge and attitude scores regarding Janani Suraksha Yojana among married women with
selected demographic variables. • Prepare an
information booklet regarding Janani Suraksha
Yojana among married women. • The conceptual
framework for this study was based on modified
Pender’s Health. Results: Assessment of the level
of knowledge of married women showed that the
highest percentage (70%) of the sample had
moderate knowledge; 20% of the married women
had good knowledge; and 10% of the married
women had poor knowledge with total mean 17.3
and SD 4.54. Assessment of level of attitude showed
that 56% of the respondents had positive attitude,
44% of the respondent had neutral attitude, and 0%
of the study population had poor attitude regarding
Janani Suraksha Yojana with total mean 59.08 and
SD 8.63.
