The effectiveness of structured teaching programme on FOUR score scale among staff nurses

Abstract

Introduction-FOUR score scale is a standardized scale it can be used to assess the level of consciousness. The FOUR score has been developed to assess the depth of coma in more detailed manner that the Glasgow coma scale. The FOUR score assign a value of 0-4 to each of functional categories: Eye response (E), motor response (M), brain stems reflexes (B), and respiration (R). In each of these categories, a score of 0 indicates non-functioning status , and a score 4 represents normal functioning. Aim of study- To assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on FOUR score scale among staff nurses working in selected hospitals of Haryana. Material & Method-A quantitative research approach with pre-experimental research design was adopted. Total 40 staff nurses were taken by non probability purposive sampling technique to identify the knowledge regarding FOUR score scale. Data was collected with self structured interview shedule and analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Result- In the present study, the effectiveness of the structured teaching programme was significant. The mean post-test knowledge score(X2=19.3) was apparently higher than the mean pre-test knowledge score (X1=11) and the difference between mean is 8.3. Conclusion- Structured teaching programme was effective the knowledge of staff nurses was increased after structured teaching programme.
